Captain John Barlow Butcher was born on 15 March 1827.1 He was the son of Vice-Admiral Samuel Butcher and Elizabeth Anne Herbert.1 He married Jane Denning Elliot, daughter of Captain Sir William Elliot, on 6 September 1852.1 He died on 26 June 1888 at age 61.1
