Nicholas Taaffe, 2nd Earl of Carlingford was the son of Theobald Taaffe, 1st Earl of Carlingford and Mary White.1 He married Mary Weld, daughter of Humphrey Weld and Hon. Clara Arundell.1 He died on 1 July 1690, killed in action, without issue.1 He died intestate and his estate was administered on 1 October 1691 at Dublin, County Dublin, IrelandG.1
He succeeded as the 3rd Baron of Ballymote, co. Sligo [I., 1628] on 31 December 1677.2 He succeeded as the 2nd Earl of Carlingford, co. Louth [I., 1661] on 31 December 1677.1 He succeeded as the 3rd Viscount Taaffe of Corren, co. Sligo [I., 1628] on 31 December 1677.2 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Ireland] on 3 May 1686.1 He was Envoy to the Emperor Leopold in 1689.1 He fought in the Battle of the Boyne on 1 July 1690, leading his Regiment of Foot for King James.1

David Carmichael was the son of David Carmichael, 9th of Balmedie and Anna Graham.2 He married Janet Coutts, daughter of Peter Coutts, on 3 October 1725.1 He died in 1756.1
He held the office of Burgess and Guildbrother of Edinburgh, in right of his wife.1 In 1745 he rose in support of Prince Charles Edward, and as a result was heavily fined and had to alienate the family estates.1
