Brig.-Gen. Philip Howell was the son of Lt.-Col. Horace Howell.2 He married Rosalind Upcher Buxton, daughter of Henry Edmund Buxton and Mary Rosalind Upcher, on 13 September 1911.1 He died on 7 October 1916 at Somme, France, killed in action.1
He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.)1 He fought in the First World War.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the 4th Hussars.1
