     Captain Thomas Hugh Berney was born on 17 October 1866.¹ He was the son of Sir Henry Hanson Berney, 9th Bt. and Jane Dorothea Bloxam.¹ He married Fridzwede Katherine Bell, daughter of Lt.-Col. F. W. Bell, on 2 July 1892.¹ He died on 18 February 1900 at age 33 at Monte Cristo, Natal, South Africa^G, killed in action.¹
     He gained the rank of Captain in the 2nd Battalion, Prince of Wales's Own West Yorkshire Regiment.¹ He fought in the Boer War.

     Fridzwede Katherine Bell was the daughter of Lt.-Col. F. W. Bell.¹ She married Captain Thomas Hugh Berney, son of Sir Henry Hanson Berney, 9th Bt. and Jane Dorothea Bloxam, on 2 July 1892.¹ She died in 1941.¹
     From 2 July 1892, her married name became Berney.¹

     Lt.-Col. F. W. Bell lived at Fermoy, County Cork, Ireland^G.¹
