     James Hamilton, Lord Pencaitland was baptised on 28 August 1659 at Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.^1,2 He was the son of Sir Robert Hamilton, Lord Pressmennan and Marion Denholm.¹ He married Catherine Denholm, daughter of James Denholm of Westshires.¹ He died in 1729.¹
     He held the office of Lord of Session [Scotland] between 1712 and 1726.¹ He was styled as Lord Pencaitland [Scottish Law Lord] between 1712 and 1726.¹ He lived at Pencaitland, East Lothian, Scotland^G.¹

     Catherine Denholm is the daughter of James Denholm of Westshires.¹ She married James Hamilton, Lord Pencaitland, son of Sir Robert Hamilton, Lord Pressmennan and Marion Denholm.¹
     Her married name became Hamilton.¹

     John Hamilton of Pencaitland, younger was the son of James Hamilton, Lord Pencaitland and Catherine Denholm.¹ He married Margaret Menzies, daughter of Alexander Menzies of Culterallers.¹ He died on 14 February 1724, without surviving issue.¹
     He lived at Pencaitland, East Lothian, Scotland^G.¹
