     James Du Pre Alexander, 3rd Earl of Caledon was born on 27 July 1812 at London, EnglandG.2 He was the son of Du Pre Alexander, 2nd Earl of Caledon and Lady Catherine Freeman Yorke.3 He married Lady Jane Frederica Harriot Mary Grimston, daughter of James Walter Grimston, 1st Earl of Verulam and Lady Charlotte Jenkinson, on 4 September 1845 at St. Michael's, St. Albans, Hertfordshire, EnglandG.1 He died on 30 June 1855 at age 42 at Carlton House Terrace, London, EnglandG.1,2 He was buried at Caledon Castle, County Tyrone, IrelandG.2 His will was proven (by probate) in August 1855.2
     He was educated between 1824 and 1828 at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, EnglandG.4 He was educated at Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG.2 He gained the rank of Captain in the Coldstream Guards.1 He held the office of Sheriff of County Armagh in 1836.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Conservative) for County Tyrone between 1837 and 1839.1 He succeeded as the 3rd Baron Caledon, of Caledon, co. Tyrone [I., 1790] on 8 April 1839.1 He succeeded as the 3rd Viscount Caledon, of Caledon, co. Tyrone [I., 1797] on 8 April 1839.1 He succeeded as the 3rd Earl of Caledon, of Caledon, co. Tyrone [I., 1800] on 8 April 1839.1 He held the office of Representative Peer [Ireland] in 1841.1 He gained the rank of Colonel in the Tyrone Militia.1
