Frances Pulteney was the daughter of Daniel Pulteney and Margaret Deering Tichborne.1 She married Sir William Pulteney, 1st/5th Bt., son of Sir James Johnstone of Westerhall, 3rd Bt. and Hon. Barbara Murray, on 10 November 1760.2 She died on 1 June 1782.3
From 10 November 1760, her married name became Johnstone.1 In 1767 she inherited the Bath estates.1 She brought her husband the vast Pulteney properties (he also owned a large estate in America.)2

Sir William Pulteney, 1st/5th Bt. was born on 19 October 1729.2 He was the son of Sir James Johnstone of Westerhall, 3rd Bt. and Hon. Barbara Murray.3 He married, firstly, Frances Pulteney, daughter of Daniel Pulteney and Margaret Deering Tichborne, on 10 November 1760.2 He married, secondly, Margaret Stirling, daughter of Sir William Stirling of Ardoch, 4th Bt. and Christian Erskine, on 3 January 1804.3 He died on 30 May 1805 at age 75.3
He was given the name of William Johnstone at birth.4 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.)2 In 1794 his name was legally changed to William Pulteney by Royal Licence.1,2 He gained the title of 1st Baronet Pulteney in 1794.4 He succeeded as the 5th Baronet Johnstone, of Westerhall [N.S., 1700] on 3 September 1794.2
