He was educated at Harrow School, Harrow, London, EnglandG.3 He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, EnglandG.3 He was created 1st Baronet Basset, of Tehidy, co. Cornwall [Great Britain] on 24 November 1779.3 He held the office of Recorder of Penrhyn.3 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Penrhyn between 1780 and 1796.3 He graduated from King's College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, in 1786 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)3 He was created 1st Baron de Dunstanville of Tehidy on 17 June 1796.1 He was created 1st Baron Basset of Stratton, Cornwall [Great Britain] on 30 November 1797, with a special remainder to his daughter, Frances Basset.1
On his death, his Barony de Dunstanville and his baronetcy both became extinct.3 He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of National Biography.8
