Admiral Sir Charles Knowles, 1st Bt. was born between 1694 and 1700.1 He was the son of Charles Knollys and Elizabeth Price.2,1 He married, firstly, Mary Alleyne, daughter of John Alleyne and Mary Terrill, on 23 December 1740.1 He married, secondly, Maria Magdalena Theresa de Bouget, daughter of Henri Francis, Comte de Bouget, on 29 July 1750.1 He died on 9 December 1777.1
He was styled as Viscount Wallingford.2 He held the office of Governor of Louisburg between 1746 and 1748.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Gatton, Surrey between 1749 and 1752.1 He held the office of Governor of Jamaica between 1752 and 1756.1 He gained the rank of Admiral of the White.1 He was created 1st Baronet Knowles, of Lovell Hill, Berkshire [Great Britain] on 31 October 1765.1 He was Chief President of the Russian Admirallty in 1770.1 He was Member of the Russian Council between 1770 and 1774.1
