     He gained the rank of Lieutenant in 1911 in the Royal Army Medical Corps.¹ He fought in the First World War, in India and Africa.¹ He gained the rank of Captain in 1915.¹ He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.) in 1917.¹ He gained the rank of Major in 1923.¹ He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1934.¹ He gained the rank of Colonel in April 1939.¹ He was Assistant Director of RAMC, Homes Counties before 1942.¹
