     He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross (D.F.C.) in 1943.³ He fought in the Second World War.¹ He gained the rank of Squad Leader in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve.¹ He was awarded the Victoria Cross (V.C.) posthumously.³
