     He was educated in 1713 at Magdalen College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Tory) for New Woodstock between 1734 and 1747.2 He purchased Over Norton.1

     James Dawkins was born in 1722.1 He was the son of Henry Dawkins and Elizabeth Pennant.1 He died in 1757, unmarried.1
     He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Hindon, Wiltshire.1 He was a great traveller in Asia Minor, and discovered the ruins of Palmyra and Baalbec, publishing the Antiquities of these two cities.1

     James Colyear Dawkins was born in 1760.1 He was the son of Colonel Henry Dawkins and Lady Juliana Colyear.1 He married, secondly, Maria Margaret Forbes, daughter of General Gordon Forbes.1 He married, firstly, Hannah Phipps, daughter of Thomas Phipps, on 3 September 1785.1,2 He died on 13 March 1843 at Richmond, Surrey, England.2,3
     He was given the name of James Dawkins at birth.1 He matriculated at Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, on 4 May 1779.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Chippenham.1 On 24 December 1835 his name was legally changed to James Colyear Dawkins by Royal Licence, on succeeding to the estates of his uncle, 3rd Earl of Portmore.1,2
