Colonel Philip Rycaut was born in 1646.1 He was the son of Peter Rycaut and Hon. Barbara Smythe.1 He married Mary Terrick, daughter of Samuel Terrick and Mary Grosvenor.1 He died on 7 April 1714.1
He was commissioned, in the service of the Sir Edward Cartereet's Troop of Horse.1 He held the office of Consul-General in Algiers between 1683 and 1685.1 He fought in the Battle of Cork in 1690, where he was captured.1 He was taken to London on a charge of high treason, and was imprisoned in the Tower of London from which he escaped and returned to London.1 He was recaptured and escaped a second time.1 He joined King James II ar Versailles.1
