     Colonel Ronald Playfair St. Vincent Bernard was born on 25 April 1888 at Singapore.^1,2 He was the son of Francis Gumm Bernard and Edith Frances Edwards. He married Katherine Etheldreda Wigan, daughter of Percy Frederick Wigan and Catherine Frances Mary Henslowe.² He married Kathleen Mary Cleland, daughter of John Henry Cleland, circa 1921.² He died on 25 January 1943 at age 54 at Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, England.^1,2 He was buried at Wolverhampton Borough Cemetery, Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, England.¹
     He fought in the First World War, and was mentioned in despatches.¹ He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.)¹ He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.)¹ He gained the rank of Colonel in the 6th Gurkha Rifles.¹
