Charles Granville Menteth was born on 8 September 1828.1 He was the son of Charles Granville Stuart-Menteth and Cecilia Louisa Cecil.2 He married Cecil Trower, daughter of Hutches Trower, on 16 June 1868.1 He died on 10 April 1907 at age 78, without issue.1

Sarah Breviter Hamilton was born in March 1811 at Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, England.2 She was the daughter of Colonel George Hamilton and Elizabeth Sparrow.3,2 She was baptised on 20 October 1811.2 She married, firstly, Colonel William Stuart-Menteth, son of Sir Charles Granville Stuart-Menteth of Closeburn, 1st Bt. and Ludivina Loughnan, in September 1826.1 She married, secondly, Captain Alexander Bishop Chalmers on 19 November 1863 at Simla, Bengal, India.2 She died on 29 April 1900 at age 89 at Simla, India.2

Sir James Frederick Stuart-Menteth of Closeburn, 4th Bt. was born on 26 February 1846.1 He is the son of Colonel William Stuart-Menteth and Sarah Breviter Hamilton.2 He married, firstly, Frances Octavia Moore Sleigh, daughter of Maj.-Gen. Sir James Wallace Sleigh, on 12 August 1868.1 He married, secondly, Elizabeth Alyson Blackett, daughter of Captain Edward Algernon Blackett and Lucia Minchin, on 5 September 1888.2 He died on 7 September 1926 at age 80.2
He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the 2nd Dragoon Guards.1 He succeeded as the 4th Baronet Stuart-Menteth, of Closeburn, co. Dumfries and Mansfield, co. Ayr [U.K., 1838] on 28 October 1918.1
