     John Macleod, 4th of Berneray was born in 1688.¹ He was the son of Iain Macleod, 1st of Contilich and Isobel Mackenzie.¹ He married Elizabeth Stratton, daughter of Alexander Stratton.¹ He died in 1771.¹

     James Menteth of Randifoord was the son of Sir William Menteith, 5th of Kerse and Alva and Helen Bruce.² He married Janet Simpson, daughter of unknown Simpson of Aichintire, in 1501.¹ He died on 9 September 1513 at Flodden Field, Northumberland, England, killed in action.¹
     He fought in the Battle of Flodden on 9 September 1513.¹

     Janet Simpson is the daughter of unknown Simpson of Aichintire.² She married, firstly, Archibald Crawford of Brecroft.¹ She married, secondly, James Menteth of Randifoord, son of Sir William Menteith, 5th of Kerse and Alva and Helen Bruce, in 1501.¹
     Her married name became Crawford. From 1501, her married name became Menteth.
