     John Hamilton, 1st of Airdrie was the son of Sir Robert Hamilton of Fingalton and Preston and Margaret Mowat.² He married Ellen Crawford.¹ He died on 9 September 1513 at Flodden Field, Northumberland, England, killed in action.¹
     He leased Airdrie from the Abbot of Newbottle.¹ He fought in the Battle of Flodden Field on 9 September 1513.¹
