     He was educated at Winchester College, Winchester, Hampshire, England.¹ He graduated from Trinity College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, with a Master of Arts (M.A.)¹ He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the Irish Guards (RARO.)¹ He was with the British Embassy Staff between 1966 and 1969 at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.¹ He was appointed Member, Royal Victorian Order (M.V.O.) in 1968.¹
