Sir John Huggins was born on 17 September 1891.2 He married, firstly, Molly Green, daughter of Charles Francis Joseph Green, in 1929.2 He and Molly Green were divorced in 1958.2 He died on 2 June 1971 at age 79.2
He was educated at Bridlington School, Bridlington, Yorkshire, England.2 He was educated at Leeds University, Leeds, Yorkshire, West Riding, England.2 He gained the rank of Captain in the Yorkshire Regiment.2 He fought in the First World War between 1914 and 1919, where he was mentioned in dispatches.2 He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.)3 He was with the Malayan Civil Service between 1920 and 1938.2 He held the office of Colonial Secretary for Trinidad between 1938 and 1942.2 He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1939.2 He was Head of British Colonies Supply Mission between 1942 and 1943 at Washington, D.C., U.S.A.2 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Order of St. Michael and St. George (G.C.M.G.) in 1943.3 He held the office of Captain-General and Governor-in-Chief of Jamaica between 1943 and 1951.2
