John Lenox Clavering Napier was born on 9 December 1898.1 He was the son of Captain Arthur Lenox Napier and Marianne Valentine.2 He married Grace Edythe Muriel Young, daughter of Colonel Charles Augustus Young, on 15 April 1925.1 He died on 27 May 1966 at age 67.1
He was educated at Wellington College, Crowthorne, Berkshire, England.1 He was educated at Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, London, England.1 He fought in the First World War.1 He gained the rank of Brigadier in 1933 in the Royal Tank Regiment.1 He fought in the North-West Frontier in 1933.1 He fought in the Second World War, where he was mentioned in despatches twice.1 He was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1944.1 He was awarded the U.S. Legion of Merit.1
