Sir John Wood, 1st Bt. was born on 8 September 1857 at Whitfield, Derbyshire, EnglandG.2,1 He was the son of John Hill Wood and Emma Sidebottom.1 He married, firstly, Estelle Benham, daughter of Henry Benham, on 30 April 1883.1 He and Estelle Benham were divorced in 1889.1 He married, secondly, Hon. Gertrude Emily Bateman-Hanbury, daughter of William Bateman-Hanbury, 2nd Baron Bateman of Shobdon and Agnes Burrell Kerrison, on 11 February 1892 at Hoxne, Norfolk, EnglandG.2,1 He died on 28 January 1951 at age 93.1
