Lt.-Col. Robert Macdonald, 1st of Inchkenneth and Gribune was born on 10 June 1777.1 He was the son of Colin Macdonald, 2nd of Boisdale and Isabella Campbell.2 He married Mary Douglas, daughter of Thomas Douglas, on 18 January 1801.1 He died on 10 December 1856 at age 79.1
He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.)1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.)1 He fought in the Peninsular War, where he was wounded.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the Royal Horse Artillery.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1817.1

Robert Douglas Macdonald, 2nd of Inchkenneth and Gribune was born on 7 June 1802.1 He was the son of Lt.-Col. Robert Macdonald, 1st of Inchkenneth and Gribune and Mary Douglas.2 He married Mary Anne Louise Carleton, daughter of Captain unknown Carleton, in 1834.1 He died on 9 February 1860 at age 57.1
He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, England.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the 42nd Highlanders.1
