Donald Alexander Smith, 1st Baron Strathcona and Mount Royal was born on 6 August 1820 at ScotlandG.1 He was the son of Alexander Smith and Barbara Stuart.1,2 He married Isabella Sophia Hardisty, daughter of Richard Hardisty, on 9 March 1853.3 He died on 21 January 1914 at age 93 at England.1
He was clerk with the Hudson Bay Company in 1838 at CanadaG.1 He was Chief Factor of the Hudson Bay Company in 1862.3 He was Governor of the Hudson Bay Company in 1869.1 He was Special Commissioner of Red River Settlements between 1869 and 1870, throughout Riel Rebellion.3 He was Chief Commissioner of the Fur Trade between 1870 and 1874.3 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) [Canada] between 1871 and 1879, for Selkirk.3 He was Land Commissioner between 1874 and 1879.3 In 1879 he helped complete the greater part of the Great Northern Railway.1 In 1885 he helped complete the Canadian Pacific Railway.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) [Quebec] between 1887 and 1896, for Montreal.1 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Order of St. Michael and St. George (G.C.M.G.) in 1896.3 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Canada] in 1896.3 He held the office of Canadian High Commissioner to the U.K. between 1896 and 1914.1 He was created 1st Baron Strathcona and Mount Royal, of Glencoe, co. Argyll, and of Mount Royal, Quebec, Canada [U.K.] on 23 August 1897.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Argyllshire.3 He raised Strathcona's Horse for the Boer War.1 He was created 1st Baron Strathcona and Mount Royal, of Mount Royal, Quebec, Canada and of Glencoe, co. Argyll [U.K.] on 26 June 1900, with a special remainder to his daughter and her heirs.1 He was member of the Royal Commission for the Boer War in 1902.1 He was appointed Fellow, Royal Society (F.R.S.) in 1904.3 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Royal Victorian Order (G.C.V.O.) in 1908.3

Isabella Sophia Hardisty was born circa 1824.2 She was the daughter of Richard Hardisty.1 She married Donald Alexander Smith, 1st Baron Strathcona and Mount Royal, son of Alexander Smith and Barbara Stuart, on 9 March 1853.2 She died on 12 November 1913.1
