     He fought in the Waziristan Campaign, where he was mentioned in despatches.¹ He fought in the Second World War in 1945, in Burma.¹ He was appointed Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 1945.¹ He retired from the military in 1950, with the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel, late of the South Wales Borderers.¹ He lived in 2003 at SA4 Kenilworth Gardens, Bowral, New South Wales, Australia^G.¹

     Major George Mark Chirnside was the son of George Chirnside.² He married Gillian Florence Hope, daughter of Lt.-Col. James Webley Hope and Veda Annie Campbell, on 18 March 1961.¹ He died on 9 August 2015.³
     He gained the rank of Major in the 13th/18th Royal Hussars (QMO.)¹

     Colonel Adrian Victor Webley Hope was born on 16 February 1873.¹ He was the son of Rear-Admiral Charles Webley Hope and Ellen Evelyn Elizabeth Jordan.² He married Ethel Mary Middleton, daughter of J. S. Middleton, on 14 April 1920.¹ He died on 19 August 1960 at age 87.¹
     He was Colonel of the Battalion 32nd Sikh Pioneers, Indian Army in 1917.¹ He was appointed Companion, Order of the Indian Empire (C.I.E.) in 1919.¹
