John Charles Harding, 2nd Baron Harding of Petherton was born on 12 February 1928.1 He was the son of Field Marshal Allan Francis John Harding, 1st Baron Harding of Petherton and Mary Gertrude Mabel Rooke.2 He married Harriet Hare, daughter of Maj.-Gen. James Francis Hare, on 20 June 1966.1 He died on 6 June 2016 at age 88.3
He was educated at Marlborough College, Marlborough, Wiltshire, EnglandG.1 He graduated from Worcester College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He retired from the military in 1968, with the rank of Major, late of the 11th Hussars (PAO.)1 He succeeded as the 2nd Baron Harding of Petherton, of Nether Compton, co. Dorset [U.K., 1958] in 1989.1 He lived in 2003 at Myrtle Cottage, Lamyatt, Shepton Mallet, Somerset, EnglandG.1
