     He fought in the Second World War, where he was mentioned in despatches twice.¹ He gained the rank of Major in the Royal Artillery.¹ He was appointed Member, Order of the British Empire (M.B.E.) in 1945.¹ He was awarded the Officer, Order of Orange of Nassau of the Netherlands.¹ He was awarded the Territorial Decoration (T.D.)¹

     Brig.-Gen. Philip Maud was born on 8 August 1870.² He is the son of Reverend Henry Landon Maud and Amelia Harriet Powell.² He married, secondly, Hyacinthe Mary Wellesley, daughter of Courtenay Wellesley, on 19 January 1922.² He married, firstly, Dorothy Louisa Braithwaite, daughter of Reverend J. M. Braithwaite, in 1907.² He died on 28 February 1947 at age 76.²
     He was educated at Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, London, England.² He fought in the North-West Frontier between 1897 and 1898.² He was in charge of the Abyssinian and British East Africa Boundary Survey between 1902 and 1903.² He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1903.² He was chief officer of London County Council Parks and Open Spaces between 1910 and 1935.² He gained the rank of Brigadier in 1918 in the Royal Engineers.² He was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1919.² He gained the rank of Brigadier-General in the Royal Engineers.²

     Jennifer Eve Maud was the daughter of Brig.-Gen. Philip Maud and Dorothy Louisa Braithwaite.^2,3 She married Major George Ernest Gooch, son of George Daniel Gooch and Rose Ellen Apperly, on 26 April 1933.¹ She died in 1981.¹
     From 26 April 1933, her married name became Gooch.
