     John Monkton was born on 7 October 1798 at Burstock, Dorset, England.² He was the son of Rear-Admiral John Monkton and Charlotte Slade.¹ He married Sarah Robe, daughter of Thomas William Robe, on 23 August 1831 at Great Linford, Buckinghamshire, England.² He died in 1850 at Leigh Street, St. Pancras, London, England.²

     Charlotte Monkton was baptised on 1 January 1802 at Burstock, Dorset, England^G.¹ She was the daughter of Rear-Admiral John Monkton and Charlotte Slade.¹ She married Richard Winsloe, son of Reverend Richard Winsloe and Catherine Walter, on 18 August 1818 at St. Mary Magdalen, Taunton, Somerset, England^G.^1,2 She died on 2 April 1865 at age 63 at Innerleithen, Scotland.³
     From 18 August 1818, her married name became Winsloe.¹
