Francis Dobbs was born on 27 April 1750.1 He was the son of Reverend Richard Dobbs and unknown wife (?)2 He married Jane Stewart in 1773.1 He died on 11 April 1811 at age 60.3
He was educated at Trinity College, Dublin University, Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland.3 He was admitted to Kings Inn in 1773 entitled to practise as a Barrister-at-law.1 He wrote the book Universal History, commencing at the Creation and ending at the death of Christ, in letters from a father to his son, published 1787.3 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Charlemont, in Grattan's Parliament.1 He wrote, spoke and voted against Act of Union.1
