     John Ernest Charles James Cochrane was born on 18 April 1870.¹ He was the son of John Cochrane and Martha Little.² He married, firstly, Eileen Mary Fottrell, daughter of Sir George Fottrell, on 29 July 1897.¹ He married, secondly, Katalin Louise Margaret de Szilassy, daughter of Julius de Szilassy, in 1924.¹ He died on 18 March 1938 at age 67.¹
     He was educated at Sherborne School, Sherborne, Dorset, England^G.¹ He graduated from Trinity College, Dublin University, Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland^G, in 1893 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)¹ He was with Lagos Hausa Force in 1895.¹ He was in the Expedition to the Gold Coast hinterland.¹ He fought in the Ashanti War in 1900.¹ He was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross (D.S.C.) in 1900.¹ He fought in the Boer War in 1902.¹ He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Hampshire.¹ He was registered as a Member, Institute of Mechanical Engineers (M.Inst.M.E.)¹ He fought in the First World War.¹ He gained the rank of Colonel in the Royal Field Artillery (RARO.)¹ He was appointed Fellow, Royal Geographical Society (F.R.G.S.)¹

     Lt.-Col. Harold Hubert Cochrane was born on 11 September 1901.¹ He was the son of John Ernest Charles James Cochrane and Eileen Mary Fottrell.^2,1 He married Joan Nugent Boyle, daughter of Hugh Boyle and Nina Nugent, on 20 November 1925.¹ He died on 17 August 1946 at age 44 at Germany^G, killed on active service.¹
     He fought in the Second World War.¹ He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the Intelligence Corps.¹

     Joan Nugent Boyle was born on 9 March 1902 at Victoria Street, London, England.² She was the daughter of Hugh Boyle and Nina Nugent.³ She married Lt.-Col. Harold Hubert Cochrane, son of John Ernest Charles James Cochrane and Eileen Mary Fottrell, on 20 November 1925.¹ She died on 7 December 1949 at age 47.¹
     From 20 November 1925, her married name became Cochrane.

     Lt.-Cdr. Anthony George Fottrell Nugent Cochrane was born on 21 August 1926.¹ He is the son of Lt.-Col. Harold Hubert Cochrane and Joan Nugent Boyle.² He married Felicity Johns, daughter of Major W. H. Johns, on 6 April 1945.¹
     He was educated at Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, Devon, England^G.¹ He retired from the military, with the rank of Lieutenant-Commander, late of the Royal Navy.¹ He was an executive with Jaguar Cars Ltd.¹
