General John Francis Cradock, 1st Baron Howden of Howden and Grimston was born on 11 August 1759 at Henrietta Street, Dublin, County Dublin, IrelandG.1 He was the son of Rt. Rev. John Cradock.1 He married Lady Theodosia Sarah Frances Meade, daughter of John Meade, 1st Earl of Clanwilliam and Theodosia Magill, on 17 November 1798. He died in July 1839 at age 79.
He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Order of the Bath (G.C.B.)2 He held the office of Governor of the Cape Colony between 1811 and 1814.3 He was created 1st Baron Howden of Grimston and Spaldington and of Cradockstown, co. Kildare [Ireland] on 19 October 1819.1 He was created 1st Baron Howden of Howden and Grimston, co. Yorks [U.K.] on 10 September 1831.1
