Admiral Sir Michael Seymour, 1st Bt. was the son of Reverend John Seymour and Grizel Hobart.2 He married Jane Hawker, daughter of Captain James Hawker and Dorothea Nicholls, on 20 January 1789.1 He died on 9 July 1834 at Rio de Janeiro, BrazilG.
He gained the rank of commander in 1806 in the H.M.S. Amethyst, frigate, capturing the French frigate Niémen (which he subsequently commanded and which action won him his baronetcy).1 He was created 1st Baronet Seymour, of High Mount, co. Limerick [U.K.] on 31 May 1809.1 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.)1 He held the office of Commissioner of Portsmouth Dockyard between 1829 and 1832.1 He was Rear-Admiral and Commander-in-Chief of the South America between 1832 and 1834.1
