Myles Walter Ponsonby was born on 12 September 1924.1 He was the son of Victor Coope Ponsonby and Gladys Edith Walter.2 He married Ann Veronica Theresa Maynard, daughter of Brigadier Francis Herbert Maynard and Ethel Bates, on 20 May 1950.1 He died on 1 February 1999 at age 74.1
He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the King's Royal Rifle Corps.1 He fought in the Second World War between 1943 and 1945, where he was wounded.1 He was Consul-General to Hanoi between 1964 and 1965.1 He was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1966.1 He held the office of Ambassador to Mongolia between 1974 and 1977.1

Brigadier Francis Herbert Maynard was born on 21 December 1881 at Ottawa, Ontario, CanadaG.2 He was the son of M. W. Maynard and Ellen Dickey.2 He married Ethel Bates in 1914.2 He died on 30 March 1979 at age 97.2
He was educated at Royal Military College, Kingston, Ontario, CanadaG.2 He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches twice.2 He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.) in 1916.1 He fought in the Third Afghan War.2 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1937.1 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1937.1 He fought in the Waziristan Campaign between 1937 and 1938, where he was mentioned in despatches three times.2 He held the office of Aide-de-Camp to HM King George VI between 1937 and 1938.2 He retired from the military in 1938, with the rank of Brigadier.2 He gained the rank of Acting Wing Commander in 1945 in the Royal Air Force Volunteer reserve.2 He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Military Science (D.Sc.Mil.) by Royal Military College, Kingston, Ontario, CanadaG, in 1976.2

Ann Veronica Theresa Maynard was born on 23 December 1924.2 She was the daughter of Brigadier Francis Herbert Maynard and Ethel Bates.3,4 She married Myles Walter Ponsonby, son of Victor Coope Ponsonby and Gladys Edith Walter, on 20 May 1950.1 She died on 3 October 2023 at age 98.2
She was a morse operator for the SOE during the Second World War.2 From 20 May 1950, her married name became Ponsonby. She was awarded the Legion d’Honneur in 2019.2
