Hector Munro of Foulis was the son of Robert Munro of Foulis and Margaret Ogilvy.2 He married, firstly, Anne Fraser, daughter of Hugh Fraser, 5th Lord (Fraser of) Lovat and Lady Elizabeth Stewart.1 He married, secondly, Janet Munro, daughter of Andrew Munro.1 He died on 14 November 1603.1

He was admitted to Middle Temple in 1963 entitled to practise as a barrister-at-law.2 He held the office of Recorder in 1976.2 He was appointed Queen's Counsel (Q.C.) in 1979.2 He was appointed Knight in 1988.2 He held the office of Justice of the High Court, Queen's Bench Division on 10 October 1988.2 He held the office of Lord Justice of Appeal on 4 June 1996.2 He was created Baron Judge, of Draycote in the County of Warwickshire [U.K. Life Peer] on 4 September 2008.1 He held the office of Lord Chief Justice of England on 1 October 2008.1
