John Burdon Sanderson Haldane1

     John Burdon Sanderson Haldane was born on 5 November 1892.1 He was the son of John Scott Haldane and Louisa Kathleen Trotter.2 He married, firstly, Charlotte Franken, daughter of Joseph Franken, on 11 May 1926.1 He and Charlotte Franken were divorced in 1945.1 He married, secondly, Dr. Helen Spurway in 1946.1 He died on 1 December 1964 at age 72, without issue.1
     He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 He was educated at New College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG.1 He gained the rank of Captain in 1914 in the The Black Watch.1 He fought in the First World War between 1914 and 1919, where he was twice wounded.1 He was a Fellow between 1919 and 1922 at New College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG.1 He was Sir William Dunn Reader in Biochemistry between 1922 and 1932 at Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG.1 He was Professor of Genetics between 1932 and 1937 at London University, London, EnglandG.1 He was Professor of Biochemistry between 1937 and 1964 at University College London, London, EnglandG.1 He was chairman of the editorial board of the Daily Worker between 1940 and 1949.1 He was appointed Fellow, Royal Society (F.R.S.)1 He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Science (Sc.D.) by Groningen University, Groningen, The NetherlandsG, in 1946.1 He was awarded the honorary degree of Docteur by Paris, FranceG, in 1948.1

     Charlotte Franken was the daughter of Joseph Franken.2 She married John Burdon Sanderson Haldane, son of John Scott Haldane and Louisa Kathleen Trotter, on 11 May 1926.1 She and John Burdon Sanderson Haldane were divorced in 1945.1 She died on 16 March 1969.1
     From 11 May 1926, her married name became Haldane.

     Lieutenant Richard Spread was the son of John Spread and Anastatia Earbury.1 He died in 1794 at Bergen-op-Zoom, Brabant, The NetherlandsG.1

     Sir William Stowell Haldane was born on 19 August 1864 at St. George, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.1,2 He was the son of Robert Haldane and Mary Elizabeth Burdon-Sanderson.3 He married Margaret Edith Stuart Nelson, daughter of Thomas Nelson and Jessie K. Kemp, on 29 June 1892.1 He died on 7 November 1951 at age 87 at Cloan, Auchterarder, Perthshire, Scotland.1,2
     He was educated at Edinburgh Academy, Edinburgh, Midlothian, ScotlandG.1 He graduated from University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh, Midlothian, ScotlandG, with a Bachelor of Law (B.L.)1 He was a practising Writer to the Signet (W.S.) in 1888 at Edinburgh, Midlothian, ScotlandG.1 He was Crown Agent [Scotland] and Prison Commissioner between 1905 and 1917.1 He was Commissioner under the Development Fund Act between 1910 and 1930.1 He was appointed Knight, Order of the Bath (K.B.) in 1912.1
