     Major William Ernest Guinness was born in 1882.1 He was the son of Reverend Robert Guinness and Grace Harriet Butler.2 He married, firstly, Dorothy Dalgleish, daughter of James Campsie Dalgleish and Marie Sophie Nicholson Guerry de Lauret, in 1922 at Kensington, London, England.1,3 He married, secondly, Dorothy Mundy, daughter of Henry Mundy, on 11 February 1944.1
     He was educated at Malvern College, Malvern, Worcestershire, EnglandG.1 He fought in the Boer War in 1901.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in 1908 in the Imperial Yeomanry.1 He gained the rank of Major in the Manchester Regiment.1 He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches.1 He gained the rank of Honorary Flight Lieutenant in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve.1
