     James Stanhope, 1st Earl Stanhope was born in 1673.¹ He was the son of Hon. Alexander Stanhope and Catherine Burghill.¹ He married Lucy Pitt, daughter of Thomas Pitt and Jane Innes, on 24 February 1713/14.¹ He died on 5 February 1720/21.¹
     He purchased the Chevening estate, Kent for £28,000 in 1717 from Anne Lennard, Baroness Dacre.³ He was created 1st Baron Stanhope of Elvaston, co. Derby [Great Britain] on 3 July 1717.⁴ He was created 1st Viscount Stanhope of Mahon, in the island of Minorca [Great Britain] on 3 July 1717.⁴ He was created 1st Earl Stanhope [Great Britain] on 14 April 1718.⁴

     Lucy Pitt was born in 1692. She was the daughter of Thomas Pitt and Jane Innes.¹ She married James Stanhope, 1st Earl Stanhope, son of Hon. Alexander Stanhope and Catherine Burghill, on 24 February 1713/14.¹ She died in 1722/23.
     Her married name became Stanhope.

     Thomas Pitt was born on 5 July 1653 at Blandford, Dorset, England.³ He was the son of Reverend John Pitt and Sarah Jay.³ He married Jane Innes, daughter of James Innes, in 1674. He died on 28 April 1726 at age 72.⁴
     He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Old Sarum in 1689.³ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Salisbury between 1689 and 1695.³ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Old Sarum between 1695 and 1698.³ He held the office of President of Fort St. George, Madras between 1698 and 1709.³ He was an East India merchant.³ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Old Sarum between 1710 and 1716.³ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Thirsk between 1717 and 1722.³ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Old Sarum between 1722 and 1726.³ He lived at Bosconnoc, Cornwall, England^G.¹ He lived at Blandford, Dorset, England^G.⁵

     Philip Stanhope, 2nd Earl Stanhope was born on 15 August 1714. He was the son of James Stanhope, 1st Earl Stanhope and Lucy Pitt.¹ He married Grizel Hamilton, daughter of Charles Hamilton, Lord Binning and Rachel Baillie, on 25 July 1745.² He died on 7 March 1786 at age 71.²
     He succeeded as the 2nd Earl Stanhope [G.B., 1718] on 5 February 1720/21.¹ He succeeded as the 2nd Viscount Stanhope of Mahon, in the island of Minorca [G.B., 1717] on 5 February 1720/21.¹ He succeeded as the 2nd Baron Stanhope of Elvaston, co. Derby [G.B., 1717] on 5 February 1720/21.¹ He was appointed Fellow, Royal Society (F.R.S.)¹

     Grizel Hamilton was baptised on 7 April 1719 at Whitekirk, East Lothian, Scotland.² She was the daughter of Charles Hamilton, Lord Binning and Rachel Baillie.^1,3 She married Philip Stanhope, 2nd Earl Stanhope, son of James Stanhope, 1st Earl Stanhope and Lucy Pitt, on 25 July 1745.³ She died on 28 December 1811 at age 92.³
     Her married name became Stanhope.

     Henry Pelham was born after 1654. He was the son of Sir John Pelham, 3rd Bt. and Lady Lucy Sydney.² He married Frances Bine, daughter of John Bine.³ He died on 1 April 1721.³
     He was Clerk of the Pells.¹ He lived at Stanmer, Sussex, England^G.³

     Philip Stanhope, Viscount Mahon was born on 5 July 1746. He was the son of Philip Stanhope, 2nd Earl Stanhope and Grizel Hamilton. He died on 6 July 1763 at age 17.
     He was styled as Viscount Mahon.

     Lady Hester Lucy Stanhope was born on 12 March 1776.² She was the daughter of Charles Stanhope, 3rd Earl Stanhope and Lady Hester Pitt.¹ She died on 23 June 1839 at age 63 at Syria^G, unmarried.²

     Lady Elizabeth Saville was born on 28 August 1675.² She was the daughter of George Saville, 1st Marquess of Halifax and Gertrude Pierrepont.¹ She married Philip Stanhope, 3rd Earl of Chesterfield, son of Philip Stanhope, 2nd Earl of Chesterfield and Lady Elizabeth Dormer, on 24 February 1691/92.¹ She died on 6 September 1708 at age 33, with three sons (died without issue ) and two daughters:.² She died circa 7 September 1708.¹
     Her married name became Stanhope.
