     He was educated at Kidderminster Grammar School, Kidderminster, Worcestershire, England^G.¹ He was first working in the Ardoyne factory in 1891.¹ He was appointed Manager when the business was sold to John Shaw Brown & Company in 1899.¹ He was the Director of John Shaw Brown & Company, and Manager of all of the companies factories in 1907.¹ He held the office of Chairman of the Power Loom Manufacturers' Association between 1929 and 1931.¹
