He was given the name of Andrew Robinson Stoney at birth.1 Circa January 1777 his name was legally changed to Andrew Robinson Stoney-Bowes.1 He held the office of High Sheriff of County Durham in 1780.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Newcastle-upon-Tyne between 1780 and 1784.1

John Bowes, 10th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne was born on 14 April 1769.1 He was the son of John Bowes, 9th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne and Mary Eleanor Bowes.1,2 He married Mary Milner, daughter of J. Milner, on 2 July 1820.1 He died on 3 July 1820 at age 51.1
He succeeded as the 17th Lord Glamis [S., 1445] on 7 March 1776.1 He succeeded as the 10th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne [S., 1677] on 7 March 1776.1 He succeeded as the 10th Lord Lyon and Glamis [S., 1606] on 7 March 1776.1 He gained the rank of Cornet in 1786 in the Royal Horse Guards.1 He gained the rank of Captain in 1789 in the 65th Foot.1 He was educated at Pembroke College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England.1 He was appointed Representative Peer [Scotland] between 1796 and 1806.1 He was appointed Representative Peer [Scotland] between 1807 and 1812.1 He was created 1st Baron Bowes of Streatlam Castle, co. Mary Milner was the daughter of J. Milner.1 She married, firstly, John Bowes, 10th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne, son of John Bowes, 9th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne and Mary Eleanor Bowes, on 2 July 1820.1 She married, secondly, Rt. Hon. Sir William Hutt on 16 March 1831.1 She died on 5 May 1860.1
After her marriage, Mary Milner was styled as Countess of Strathmore and Kinghorne on 2 July 1820. From 2 July 1820, her married name became Bowes. From 16 March 1831, her married name became Hutt.
