     Edward Clerk was born on 24 June 1824.¹ He was the son of Rt. Hon. Sir George Clerk of Penicuik, 6th Bt. and Maria Anne Law.² He married Alice Bramston, daughter of Thomas William Bramston and Eliza Harvey, on 28 April 1864.¹ He died on 1 May 1917 at age 92.¹
     He gained the rank of Major in the 4th Madras Cavalry.¹

     Dorothy Radcliffe Hordern was born on 13 September 1895.¹ She was the daughter of Radcliffe Hordern and Grace Harriet Nesbitt.¹ She married Thomas Wallace Smith in October 1922.¹ She died on 1 January 1929 at age 33.¹
