     Vice-Admiral Sir John Michael Villiers was born on 22 June 1907.1 He was the son of Rear-Admiral Edward Cecil Villiers and Anne Gordon Haynes-Smith.2 He married Rosemary Grissell, daughter of Lt.-Col. Bernard Salwey Grissell, on 3 November 1936.1 He died on 1 January 1990 at age 82 at Melton Woodbridge, Suffolk, England.3
     Vice-Admiral Sir John Michael Villiers usually went by his middle name of Michael.1 He was educated at Oundle School, Oundle, Northamptonshire, EnglandG.1 He was educated at Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, Devon, EnglandG.1 He fought in the Second World War, where she was mentioned in despatches.1 He was appointed Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 1943.1 He was commander of the H.M.S. Ursa in 1945.1 He was commander of the H.M.S. Snipe between 1946 and 1947.1 He was commander of the H.M.S. Bulwark between 1954 and 1957.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1960.1 He held the office of Fourth Sea Lord of the Admiralty between 1960 and 1963.1 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.) in 1962.1 He was appointed Knight, Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem (K.St.J.) in 1964.1 He held the office of Lieutenant-Governor and Commander-in-Chief of Jersey between 1964 and 1969.1
