Henry Strother Cautley, 1st and last Baron Cautley was born on 9 December 1863.1 He was the son of Henry Cautley and Mary Ellen Strother.1 He married Alice Bohun Fox, daughter of Bohun Henry Chandler Fox, on 1 October 1902.1 He died on 21 September 1946 at age 82, without issue.2
He was educated at Charterhouse School, Godalming, Surrey, EnglandG.1 He graduated from King's College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.), 1st class maths.1 He was admitted to Middle Temple in 1886 entitled to practise as a barrister.1 In 1892 he unsuccessfully contersted the seat of Dewsbury.1 In 1895 he again unsuccessfully contersted the seat of Dewsbury.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Conservative) for East Leeds between 1900 and 1906.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Conservative) for Sussex, East Grinstead Division between 1910 and 1936.1 He held the office of Recorder of Sunderland between 1918 and 1935.1 He was appointed King's Counsel (K.C.) in 1919.1 He was created 1st Baronet Cautley [U.K.] on 28 January 1924.1 He held the office of Bencher of the Middle Temple in 1925.1 He was chairman of the East Sussex Quarter Sessions in 1927.1 He was created 1st Baron Cautley, of Lindfield, co. Sussex [U.K.] on 14 July 1936.1
On his death, his titles became extinct.2
