James Butler, 3rd Viscount Ikerrin was the son of Pierce Butler, 2nd Viscount of Ikerrin and Eleanor Bryan.2 He married Eleanor Redman, daughter of Colonel Daniel Redman, after 1672.1 He died on 26 October 1688.1
He succeeded as the 3rd Viscount Ikerrin, co. Tipperary [I., 1629].1 He gained the rank of Captain in 1687 in the Grenadiers.1

Eleanor Redman is the daughter of Colonel Daniel Redman.1 She married, firstly, Henry Warden before 1672.1 She married, secondly, James Butler, 3rd Viscount Ikerrin, son of Pierce Butler, 2nd Viscount of Ikerrin and Eleanor Bryan, after 1672.1
From before 1672, her married name became Warden.1 From after 1672, her married name became Butler. After her marriage, Eleanor Redman was styled as Viscountess Ikerrin after 1672.

Brig.-Gen. Pierce Butler, 4th Viscount Ikerrin was born in 1679.1 He was the son of James Butler, 3rd Viscount Ikerrin and Eleanor Redman.2 He married, firstly, Alicia Boyle, daughter of Murrough Boyle, 1st Viscount Blesington, on 14 October 1697.1 He married, secondly, Olivia St. George, daughter of Sir Oliver St. George, 1st Bt., on 28 April 1703.1 He died on 4 January 1710/11.1
He succeeded as the 4th Viscount Ikerrin, co. Tipperary [I., 1629] on 26 October 1688.1 In May 1689 sat in King James II's Parliament hence he was outlawed after the Williamite victory.1 In 1698 his outlawry was annulled and he was ennabled to attend the Irish House of Lords.1 He was educated at Trinity College, Dublin University, Dublin, County Dublin, IrelandG.1 He was Colonel of Foot between 1700 and 1705.1 He was Colonel of Dragoons between 1705 and 1711.1 He gained the rank of Brigadier-General in 1710.1
