     Gershom Carmichael was born circa 1672 at Scotland^G.² He was the son of Reverend Alexander Carmichael and Christian Inglis.³ He married Christian Inglis on 19 September 1695 at Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland^G.² He died on 26 February 1729 at Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland^G.²
     He was Professor of Moral Philosophy at University of Glasgow, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland^G.¹ He held the office of Burgess of Edinburgh.¹

     Christian Inglis was born in 1675 at Scotland^G.¹ She married Gershom Carmichael, son of Reverend Alexander Carmichael and Christian Inglis, on 19 September 1695 at Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland^G.¹
     From 19 September 1695, her married name became Carmichael.
