George Croydon Marks, 1st and last Baron Marks was born on 9 June 1858.1 He was the son of William Marks and Amelia Adelaide Croydon.1 He married Margaret Maynard, daughter of Thomas Maynard, on 30 July 1881.1 He died on 24 September 1938 at age 80, without issue.1
He was educated at Royal Arsenal School, Woolwich, Kent, EnglandG.1 He was educated at King's College London, London, EnglandG.1 He was founder and partner of Marks and Clerk, consulting engineers.1 He was registered as a Associate Member, Institution of Civil Engineers (A.M.I.C.E.)1 He lived Member, Institution of Mechanical Engineers (M.I.Mech.E.)1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Liberal) for Cornwall, Launceston Division between 1906 and 1918.1 He was appointed Knight Bachelor in 1911.1 He was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1917.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Liberal) for Cornwall, Northern Division between 1918 and 1924.1 He was created 1st Baron Marks, of Woolwich, co. Kent [U.K.] on 16 July 1929.1 On his death, his title became extinct.1

Theresa Arabella Fanny Dowell was born on 6 June 1820.2 She was the daughter of Reverend William Dowell and Charlotte Theresa Yonge.1,2 She married Robert Temple Frere, son of Reverend Temple Frere and Jane Richards, on 2 October 1851.3 She died on 20 January 1859 at age 38.3
