In 1738 he went to manage the estate of his maternal uncle, Vice-Admiral Sir Peter Warren, on the Mohawk River, North America.3 He was Colonel-in-Chief of the Six Nations in 1744.3 He was Colonel of the Militia Forces and Iroquois. He fought in the Battle of Lake George in 1755, where he defeated the French.3 He was sole superintendent of the affairs of the Six Nations in 1755.3 He gained the rank of Major-General on 27 November 1755.3 He was created 1st Baronet Johnson, of New York, in North America [Great Britain] on 27 November 1755.3 He fought in the Capture of Fort Niagara in 1759.
