Alexander Edward Murray, 6th Earl of Dunmore was born on 1 June 1804.1 He was the son of George Murray, 5th Earl of Dunmore and Lady Susan Hamilton.1 He married Lady Catherine Herbert, daughter of General George Augustus Herbert, 11th Earl of Pembroke and Catherine Woronzow, on 27 September 1836.1 He died on 15 July 1845 at age 41.1
He gained the rank of Captain in the 9th Lancers.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Baron Dunmore, in the Forest of Atholl, co. Perth [U.K., 1831] on 11 November 1836.1 He succeeded as the 6th Viscount of Fincastle [S., 1686] on 11 November 1836.1 He succeeded as the 6th Earl of Dunmore [S., 1686] on 11 November 1836.1 He succeeded as the 6th Lord Murray of Blair, Moulin and Tillemot [S., 1686] on 11 November 1836.1 He was Aide-de-Camp to HRH The Duke of Cambridge.1

Lady Catherine Herbert was born on 31 October 1814.2 She was the daughter of General George Augustus Herbert, 11th Earl of Pembroke and Catherine Woronzow.1,2 She married Alexander Edward Murray, 6th Earl of Dunmore, son of George Murray, 5th Earl of Dunmore and Lady Susan Hamilton, on 27 September 1836.1 She died on 12 February 1886 at age 71.1
Her married name became Murray. After her marriage, Lady Catherine Herbert was styled as Countess of Dunmore on 11 November 1836. She promoted Harris tweed as a fashionable cloth for sporting and country wear.1
