     Professor Trevor Arthur Smith, Baron Smith of Clifton was born on 14 June 1937.2 He was the son of Arthur James Smith and Vera Gladys Cross.2 He married, firstly, Brenda Susan Eustace on 14 February 1960.2 He and Brenda Susan Eustace were divorced in 1973.2 He married, secondly, Julia Donnithorne Bullock on 9 August 1979.2 He died on 23 April 2021 at age 83.3
     He graduated from London School of Economics and Political Science, London, England, with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.)2 He was assistant lecturer between 1959 and 1960 at Exeter University, Exeter, Devon, England.2 He was lecturer in politics between 1962 and 1967 at Hull University, Hull, Yorkshire, England.2 He wrote the book Town and County Hall, published 1966.2 He was senior lecturer and professor in Political Studies between 1967 and 1991 at Queen Mary College, London University, London, England.2 He wrote the book Anti-Politics: consensus and reform, published 1972.2 He held the office of Vice-Chancellor of Ulster University between 1991 and 1999.2 He was created Baron Smith of Clifton, of Mountsandel in the County of Londonderry [U.K. Life Peer] on 4 November 1997.1
