Lt.-Gen. John West, 1st Earl De La Warr was born on 4 April 1693.2 He was the son of John West, 6th Baron Delaware and Margaret Freeman.3 He married, firstly, Lady Charlotte MacCarthy, daughter of Donogh MacCarty, 4th Earl of Clancarty and Lady Elizabeth Spencer, on 25 May 1721.2 He married, secondly, Anne Walker, daughter of Nehemiah Walker, on 15 June 1744.1 He died on 16 March 1766 at age 72.1
He gained the rank of Guidon and 1st Major in 1715 in the 1st Troop of Horse Guards.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.)
