Colonel Roger Gordon Thomson was born on 4 April 1878.2 He is the son of Maj.-Gen. David Thomson and Emily Lydia Birdwood.1,2 He married Florence Lucy Broughton, daughter of Maj.-Gen. William Edward Delves Broughton and Laura Margaret Lawson, on 7 April 1904.1
He lived at Glastonbury, Somerset, England.3 He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches five times and was wounded.2 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1916.2 He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1918.2 He gained the rank of Colonel in the Royal Field Artillery.2
