William Smith was born on 8 January 1787 at Dunlop Street, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 He was the son of Archibald Smith and Isabel Ewing.1 He married Sarah Wallis on 3 February 1829 at Ibrox Hill, Govan, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 He died on 15 May 1871 at age 84 at Kirknewton, Midlothian, Scotland.1
